2/6/2007 - SolidLine 'Takes the Time' for
Teenage Substance Abuse Awareness
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - Four organizations have partnered together
to create an up-to-date DVD that combats the abuse of alcohol,
marijuana and other drugs among high school students. This
video, however, isn't for the kids...it's for their parents.
SolidLine Media, working together with Illinois school
District 113 and 117 student assistant program directors
Cathy Cratty and Nathan Bylsma, as well as experts from
Rosecrance Treatment Centers, produced the 14-minute educational
DVD entitled Take the Time. The production demonstrates
that parents do have the ability to influence their teens'
choices regarding alcohol and drug abuse.
"Hopefully the DVD will help correct some false ideas,"
states Cratty. "Students are bored with the stay-away-from-drugs
message because they have heard it too many times, however,
research shows that parents are the number one influence
on a teen's decision regarding risk-taking behaviors such
as the abuse of alcohol and other drugs. So we decided to
educate parents with a DVD that updates their knowledge
and understanding of illegal substance abuse."
The DVD, which was released in late 2006, has already been
distributed to all parents of incoming freshmen within Districts
113 and 117. The team is currently developing an informational
web site scheduled to be launched in March (www.takethetimedvd.org)
and plans to continue the DVD distribution this year throughout
the Midwest and beyond.
