Wondering what it takes to make a good training video? Training doesn’t have to be a dry rehash of your business operations and practices manuals. Let SolidLine Media help you make your training regimen engaging, interesting and applicable with our training video production expertise.

Here are some basic do’s and don’ts to consider before you begin video production:

  • Determine what information is to be included as part of your training regimen. What do new employees need to know to do their jobs? What do current employees need to be updated on? Parsing this out ahead of time avoids wasting time and money.
  • Know your audience. New employees may require more of a company overview to put subsequent information into context, while current employees may only need to be provided with specific targeted information.
  • Choose a presentational style that complements the information you’re presenting. Make sure it also allows you to organize the information in an intuitive fashion. If you have a lot of information to convey, consider splitting it up into modules, or sections, linked by a common style.
  • Don’t let technology sidetrack you. Bells and whistles don’t amount to much if you don’t have anything to hang them on. Whether you go with stylish graphics or a professional spokesperson to get your message across, be consistent and balanced to accommodate different learning styles.
  • Don’t rehash old information. Repetition doesn’t always add up to better job performance.
  • Be creative and entertaining. Viewers have short attention spans, especially during training videos. By incorporating subtle creative and entertaining ‘elements’ you will retain attention levels for longer periods, which will result in more absorbed information.
